NAVWARN details

The Canadian Coast Guard hereby provides notice that the Miramichi river shipping channel no longer meets recommended channel design guidelines for the accommodation of commercial traffic. The channel is deficient in width, depth, and alignment. The channel has in filled to the point where there remain inadequate factors of safety in channel parameters and in the aids to navigation.
Due to increased infilling in the Miramichi river on chart CA476133 and chart CA476125 from outer bar to Sheldrake Island between buoys M5 and M51 the fixed and floating aids to navigation may not provide the degree of accuracy required by certified masters of commercial vessels to safely navigate the channel. During certain local conditions buoys may be submerged.
Any further commercial usage of the buoyed channel in its current condition is solely at the discretion of vessel masters, pilots, captains, owners, agents, etc.
All other users of the river are advised that the cautions contained in this notice may apply to their own vessel in this area. All mariners must exercise extreme caution.
