Help for Subscription

Subscribing allows you to receive an email, depending on the selected schedule, when the content of the NAVWARN matches the defined filters.

General Information

Number of subscriptions
  • Users can create multiple subscriptions based on different criteria.
Confirmation of subscriptions
  • An email with an Activation link will be sent to each Subscriber. The link must be used within 48 hours of receipt or the Subscription application will be deleted.
Subscriptions renewal
  • Subscriptions must be renewed annually. Subscribers will receive an email notification 10 days in advance of their original subscription date advising them to renew their subscription service using the embedded link.
Unsubscribe
  • Every email includes a link that allows users to unsubscribe from a specific subscription.

Search filters

Status
  • Allows a NAVWARN status (Published ou Cancelled) to be used during a search.
Areas
  • Allows areas to be included in a NAVWARN search. If multiple areas are specified, the result will combine the NAVWARNs associated with either of these areas. Areas already encompassed by another selected area are automatically removed from the filter.
  • The Canadian NAVWARN areas are organized in a hierarchical structure, with 4 levels:

    1. National Area (called the Grandparent), i.e. Canada;
    2. Regional Area (called the Parent), i.e. Maritimes, Great Lakes, St. Lawrence, etc.;
    3. Local Area (called the Child/Children), i.e. Fundy, Lake Ontario, Anticosti, etc.; and,
    4. Sub-Area (called Grandchildren), i.e. Toronto Harbour, Howe Sound, Port of Montreal, etc.

    Any search of a Sub-Area will capture all the NAVWARNs within the area, including those associated to National, Regional, and Local areas in the same lineage (Child, Parent, Grandparent). For example, a search for Toronto Harbour will capture all NAVWARNs within this area, AND all NAVWARNs associated to the Lake Ontario area, AND those associated to the Great Lakes area, AND those associated to the Canada area.

    This approach guarantees our clients will receive all the relevant information, but it will sometimes result in a significant number of NAVWARNs in the search results which may seem out of context. To reduce the quantity of search results, the Exclude NAVWARNs of regional scope option has been introduced. By enabling this option, only the NAVWARNs within the selected area (including sub-areas) will be captured in the search results.

    Please exercise caution in using this option, as a number of relevant NAVWARNs associated to the Regional or National areas may be missing from the search results.

Charts
  • Allows charts to be included in a NAVWARN search. If multiple charts are specified, the result will combine the NAVWARNs associated with either of these charts.
Categories
  • Allows categories to be included in a NAVWARN search. If multiple categories are specified, the result will combine the NAVWARNs associated with either of these categories. Categories already encompassed by another selected category are automatically removed from the filter.

Parameters related to subscriptions creation

Subscription title
  • Allows the user to associate a name with a subscription. This name appears in the emails sent and allows to determine its source.
Email
  • Allows the user to specify an email address to which the NAVWARNs corresponding to the configured filters will be routed.
Schedule
  • Allows the user to choose how often to receive emails. With the Continuous option, the user will receive emails as soon as NAVWARNs match the configured filters. With the Daily option, the user will receive emails every day, at the specified time. With the Weekly option, the user will receive emails every week during the specified day, at the specified time. If there are no NAVWARNs that match the specified filters, no emails will be sent.
  • Also allows the user to specify, for the Daily and Weekly options, how to classify NAVWARNs in emails.  The possible options are by Date (default) or by Area.
Attachment
  • Allows the user to include a CSV (Comma-Separated Values) file, as an attachment, to sent emails. This file contains the descriptions of the same NAVWARNs as those present in the email but in a text format.
